Brussels, Geneva | 12. May 2009 The Vice-President Dr. Ulf-Daniel Ehlers welcomed the first UN-body in the Network last week: “That the United Nations Institute for Training and Research joins now the EFQUEL Network is a big step for our Foundation.” The Agreement occurred in the end of April 2009, both in Brussels and Geneva, and it represents the new era of international activities that has been started already by the cooperation with Middle-East, Asia and Russia. Rolf Reinhardt, the Executive Manager of the Foundation, is sure: “UNITAR and EFQUEL have in common the goal of being a centre of excellence. Knowledge to Lead is UNITAR’s slogan and EFQUEL asserts being the perfect host to provide and enrich the eKnowledge on the leading path.” UNITAR is the UN’s first body to join us. UNITAR offers training for capacity development in the fields of Environment; Peace, Security and Diplomacy; and Governance. Moreover, the Institute has identified the need to deepen its research activities in knowledge systems, including through the utilization of technology enhanced learning. Its main aim is the expansion of its virtual learning environment, in order to increase its offers of online courses and to create innovative ways of utilizing technology for learning. UNITAR comes from its internationally renowned role in knowledge transfer through delivering adult training and professional training to UN Member States and other audiences. By adding UNITAR to its Portfolio of Members, EFQUEL expands and enriches its eLearning community and strengthens regional development, by promoting social cohesion. By joining EFQUEL, UNITAR seeks to benefit from our e-Learning services expertise, particularly in the area of quality standards. Joining the EFQUEL Network takes around three-week time and consists of three steps: Application, Board’s Agreement and granting the actual Membership. Once a full member, UNITAR has the right to propose the formation of a Special Interest Group (SIG), which can afterwards turn into a Working Group (WG). EFQUEL has some examples for this successful way: At the moment, EFQUEL and InWent, together with UNITAR and UNESCO, are involved in the OPEN ECBCheck project which was developed out of the WG Global Learning. |

Fostering Quality Through Creative Learnscapes
Date: 24-25 September Place: TKK Dipoli / Helsinki
Learnscapes are the ecosystems for informal learning. They are viewed as a major factor for releasing creativity, providing the space for learners to design their own “learning landscape” and thus innovation educational practices and organisations. The EFQUEL Innovation Forum 2009 recognises the important role of informal learning for individual, organisational, and regional learning, and focuses on how creative learnscapes can foster quality and innovation.
The conference – in line with the European year for creativity and innovation - will be an interactive Forum in which examples for the power of creative learning will be presented, possibilities for harnessing innovation and leading change towards a better quality will be debated.
The forum brings together the most creative minds and prominent thinkers of the field from Europe and beyond in order to build a learnscape in which participants and presenters can build visions for their own practice. Please find more details here. |
