Desirable, unavoidable or under way - How can universities as global learning organizations look at e-learning as a driver for innovation? What could these universities 2.0 look like?

Background:
An exponentially growing number of students need to be educated, academic staff need to be massively up-skilled and solutions need to be invented to address the pressing development challenges embodied by the Millennium Development Goals. Can universities of the 21st century afford to go on business as usual?

A new generation of universities which acknowledge the need and accept to walk the way of change are called for, "Universities 2.0" which innovate their own structures in order to provide opportunities for learning across disciplines, across borders, and become nests of innovation to find global solutions to local problems. But in which way universities need to change and how can this be done?

This seminar proposes to explore the different facets of this question with the participants. E-learning can be a powerful innovation agent provided that it is considered strategically in relation with the whole university system: integrating technological, pedagogical, organizational, economical dimensions and their interrelation. How can e-learning lead to transform education institutions into global learning organizations?

We will take key lessons from previous face-to-face workshops as well our three week-online discussion, to continue a participatory discussion on the challenges and opportunities of e-learning as a tool for transformation.

Engage in a vision building exercise with us in which you will lay the foundations for your University 2.0.

The workshop is moderated by Dr. Virginie Aimard together with Maike Schansker from the United Nations University (Vice-Rectorate Europe) and Nnenna Nwakanma.
